Young mothers urged to return to school
Chimbota Community Development Organisation brand ambassador Ireen Navicha has encouraged girls who dropped out of school due to pregnancies to return and continue with their studies.
She said this on Monday at Bwelero in Nkhata Bay District when she interacted with young mothers who returned to school under the organisation’s When a Mother is a Child Project running in Sub-Traditional Authority Mndora in the district.

Said Navicha: “I know it is challenging for a parent to invest in a child who has disappointed them. However, if given a second chance, girls can make it in life.
“I would like to see every girl who dropped out getting a second chance. I hope with the support from government and other organisations, we will make it possible.”
Navicha, who is a student at Malawi University of Science and Technology and Miss
Malawi 2025 first princess, said she was delighted with the organisation’s project and pledged to continue working with it.
The organisation’s co-director Kevin Troughton observed that there was not much help available for girls and young women who dropped out of school.
“So, we want to give the girls the very best chance to succeeding and we hope to see this project spreading across the country,” he said.
Troughton appealed to government and other partners to work with the organisation to support young mothers to return to school to achieve their dreams.
Group village head Mndora thanked the organisation for supporting girls’ education.
Rebecca Banda, who is now in Form Three, thanked the organisation for the support.
“I encourage other girls who dropped out because they have children to return to school because education remains the only key to success,” she said.
The organisation sponsors girls’ education at its Chimbota Private Secondary School in the district.
